What happens if I don't renew my domain in time?

The day your domain expires it enters a 42 day grace period. During the grace period you can renew the domain at normal cost. On the 43d day after domain expiration your domain enters the 30 day "redemption period". During the redemption period we can attempt to get your domain back however there is a $250 fee to do this. Alas, once the redemption period is over the domain enters the final 5 day "pending delete" status. There is no way to retrieve a domain that enters pending delete. Once the domain name exits pending delete status the domain is released and can be registered again by anyone. You may not get to it before someone else does so be sure to not let it go this far if you have built your brand around it or used it for years.

If you receive a notice that your domain is expiring, do NOT ignore it even if you have auto-renewal enabled. Contact your registrar and make sure it gets renewed on time. Be sure the notice is from your current registrar and not another company trying to get you to transfer your domain to them.
